The action was brought into being by RBB meteorologist Frank Abel. He “couldn’t stand it,” wrote Abel on Twitter, which is why he started the campaign. Celebrities like presenter Micky Beisenherz support the campaign and solicit donations. On Twitter, pianist Igor Levit wrote: “I think the school should be supported in buying new ones. I’m in, who else?”
Education Senator Sandra Scheeres (SPD) also promised support for the Willy Brand School. “We will not leave the school in question alone in this situation and will quickly take care of the procurement of new equipment,” said Scheeres. She was impressed by the sympathy shown by many Berliners, who showed in social networks and elsewhere that they were with the students.
Scheeres condemned the act in the strongest terms. “With their completely irresponsible act, the thieves deprived many students of educational opportunities and cut off their access to online lessons.”
