Yesterday, the Jalisco State Human Rights Commission (CEDHJ) reported through a recommendation (Bulletin No. 33/22) that a young man received inadequate care by the Municipal Medical Services of Tlajomulcoso his left arm had to be amputated.

The events occurred on August 13, 2019, when the young man was attacked with a sharp object while doing garden workfor which he was transferred to the Valley Medical Unit of the Municipal Medical Services of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga (SMMTZ).

In the place he was washed, the wound was sutured and he was prescribed paracetamol, an inappropriate procedure that resulted in the wound worsening to the point of infection.

“In the report submitted to this Commission by the physician who was in charge of the petitioner’s care, stated that the patient went to the emergency room due to a stab wound to the back of the left forearm; the healing and suturing procedure was carried out. However, the defense showed that the doctor did not actually prescribe the tetanus vaccine or antibiotics, something that must have been essential in the correct treatment of the wound.

“In addition, it was shown that the doctor did not prescribe a tetanus vaccine or prescribe antibioticseven when the wound was made with a sharp object, necessary and essential treatment for the reinforcement of prophylactic measures in order to prevent and reduce the risks of a major infectious process and its possible complications.”

In addition, the bulletin evidenced the responsibility that the Tlajomulco City Council had, specifically in the Valle Medical Unit, since shortage of supplies and materials was recordedsince the affected person was not given the vaccine because they didn’t have it. The investigation culminated in determining that the municipal government must assume its responsibility.
