While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is celebrating its fifth birthday, the studio behind the game, CD PROJECT, have every reason to be pleased: The Polish developer studio has just taken Ubisoft off the throne as most valuable video game company in Europe overthrown.

CD PROJEKT has been one of the fastest growing companies in the European stock market for around ten years. The publication of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition on the Nintendo Switch and the positive response to the series adaptation of the game on Netflix brought the company further growth and led it with a value of around $ 8.13 billion to the top. Ubisoft, which sells or develops a number of large game brands such as Assassin’s Creed, WATCH_DOGS or Far Cry, has a market value of around $ 8.12 billion now just behind in second place.

Is currently with Cyberpunk 2077 the next highly anticipated CD PROJEKT game has already been finalized. As soon as the developer studio has finished working on the dark role-playing game, another big title is already waiting for us: CEO Adam Kiciński confirmed in March that a successor from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will appear (we reported).

However, if you look at the stock market values of video game companies outside Europe, it quickly becomes clear that there is still a lot of room for improvement. At $ 56.27 billion, Activision Blizzard is the leader, followed by Nintendo at $ 53.73 billion. In the following places, EA and Take-Two Interactive, known for Grand Theft Auto V, ranked $ 34.34 billion and $ 16.13 billion, respectively. Companies such as Microsoft or Sony are excluded from this consideration because they are not exclusively active in the video game industry.

It remains to be seen how the head-to-head race between Ubisoft and CD PROJEKT will develop in the long term. With Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the next big game titles are already waiting for us, which can decide the situation again.

What do you think who will stay at the top in the long run? Can CD PROJEKT with Cyberpunk 2077 permanently place in front of Ubisoft or will the French publisher with its numerous game brands take back the throne?
