Caught by poaching after posting a photo on Instagram

The Nature Protection Service (Seprona) of the Segovia Civil Guard Command investigates a person for the alleged commission of a crime against flora and fauna and another for damage from hunting two wild boars that were inside a private estate with pre-meter fencing in Segovia. The events took place on December 24 and 25, 2020 and were discovered by the property guards, who found the bodies of the wild boars with their snouts cut off.

After filing a complaint, the Civil Guard found indications that the animals could have been killed from a contiguous area, also private and limited to certain users. And he initiated an investigation against a user of the social network Instagram who had published a photograph of the muzzle of a wild boar on his profile on a date that coincided with the reported events.

The Armed Institute also carried out an inspection at a taxidermy workshop in Madrid, where it seized two sets of wild boar tusks that were in the name of the person under investigation and that could be related to the incident. “The animals killed were of great size and bearing, very valuable to hunters as hunting trophies”, highlight sources of the investigation.

The Government Sub-delegation underlines that citizen collaboration is “of great importance” for the fight against poaching. A practice that causes damage to heritage, fauna and sometimes even personal, by not keeping the appropriate safety regulations in the use of firearms.
