A 35-year-old man from Ganderkesee was so badly injured in the head by an attacker that he became unconscious and had to be treated in hospital. The police later identified a 23-year-old from Ammerland as a suspect.
Sexual assault and Hitler salute
Three sexual assaults on young women were also reported to the police. Among other things, according to the information, a 16-year-old was touched by an unknown person on the dance floor and was able to break away from his grasp.
A 53-year-old man from Ganderkesee was reported because he is said to have shown the forbidden Hitler salute on the parade route. In addition, a police officer was bitten by a drunken rioter from Bremen. According to the information, she suffered minor injuries despite wearing gloves and the 23-year-old was taken into custody.
Police and organizers: “Everything is within limits”
According to a police spokeswoman, the operation was, despite everything, “within the scope of what we know from such events.” And the organizers, the Community of Ganderkeseer Vereine (GGV), also draw a positive conclusion.
GGV spokesman Timo Vetter says that, considering the number of visitors, there were only a few incidents. “20,000 to 30,000 people at the parade and many of them in the marquee afterwards,” says Vetter. Despite the reported incidents, one can be satisfied for such a large event.
