Canadian Police Start Detaining Freedom Column Leaders / Day

The video, posted to the “Freedom Column” Twitter account, shows police taking one of the protest organizers to Tamara Litch at the station on Thursday night.

Another leader of the campaign – Chris Barbers – was previously detained.

Demonstrations in Canada began in late January as a protest against the government’s decision to extend compulsory vaccination to truck drivers in cross-border traffic, but grew sharply against the restrictions on Covid-19 and the government of Prime Minister Justin Trudo.

At the apogee of the protest movement, border crossings at the Canadian-US border were also blocked.

Earlier on Thursday, Lyca released a video alleging he would be detained.

She called on her supporters to go to Ottawa, noting that truck drivers already in the capital would stay there to continue to “fight for freedom”.

City police chief Steve Bells, meanwhile, said access to downtown Ottawa would be restricted to prevent people from joining the demonstration and warned of “imminent” actions against those already there.

Prime Minister Justin Trudo, who has been criticized for his lack of determination, this week launched the Emergency Law, which gives the government broad powers to prevent a serious crisis.

This is only the second time this law has been enacted in peacetime.

Large police forces have been sent to the area around the parliament building, where hundreds of protest trucks are still stationed.

Bells has warned that this weekend will be “very different” from the previous three weekends.

As early as Wednesday evening, he issued an ultimatum to the protesters, stating that they would face detention and confiscation if they did not leave the capital.

Previously, extraordinary powers were used only in 1970, when it was decided by Prime Minister Pierre Trudo, the father of the current prime minister, to crack down on Quebec separatists who had kidnapped two officials and carried out several bombings in Montreal.
