Campinas confirms case of monkeypox in pregnant woman

The Health Department confirmed, this Friday (5), two more cases of monkeypox, known as monkeypox. During the announcement, the folder reported that one of the two contaminated pregnant women in the state of São Paulo is a resident of the city.

Now the number of patients has risen to 20 in Campinas. There are 18 men and two women, aged between 23 and 50. Six of them came out of isolation. The others have outpatient follow-up, without severity and with good evolution. Of the total number of cases, 12 are imported and eight are autochthonous.

According to the Municipality of Campinas, care for patients suspected of having the disease is available at health centers, emergency rooms, emergency rooms and at the STI, HIV/AIDS and Viral Hepatitis Reference Center.

The information was broadcast during a live on social media by Mayor Dário Saadi (Republicans).

The main symptom is the appearance of lesions similar to pimples or blisters that can appear on the face, inside the mouth or in other parts of the body, such as hands, feet, chest, genitals or anus;

  • Lump in the neck, armpit and groin
  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Chills
  • Tiredness
  • Muscle aches

The Department of Health recommends that infected people should remain isolated until the “scabs” of the lesions fall off, which takes about 21 days. Close contacts should monitor the onset of symptoms and avoid physical contact. People nearby should not touch the wounds and be careful when handling clothes, sheets and towels that were used by the infected.

  • Avoid direct contact with lesions characteristic of the disease;
  • Wash your hands frequently or use gel alcohol;
  • Frequently clean high contact surfaces;
  • Wear a mask in places with agglomerations of people;
  • Avoid situations of physical skin-to-skin contact in crowded environments;
  • Use reliable sources for information about the disease.
