Campaign “DorfKircheklingt”: Unusual alliance brings music to the country

What does a media company have a district administration and a church district together? “A concert series” is perhaps not the most obvious answer to this question – all the more extraordinary is the togetherness that will take shape over the next few weeks under the title “DorfKircheKlingt”.

“Small, fine concerts – in the middle of the village” promises the series, which – especially after many months of sorely missed experiences – is supposed to bring music and encounters to the country. Especially where there is otherwise a lack of things that are taken for granted in the cities. “It’s about a piece of quality of life,” says Claudia Schneider, managing director of Nordkurier Seenplatte GmbH.

Churches as centers of village life

The stroke of luck that three institutions with the same concern found each other, provost Britta Carstensen from the Evangelical Lutheran Church District Mecklenburg has fond memories: Almost at the same time Kai Seiferth, 1st deputy district administrator in the Lake District, and Holger Hanson, managing director of Nordkurier Füreinander gGmbH , suggested that they should work together a year and a half ago to bring life, culture and music to the countryside. Especially in the churches, which are often the center of village life, but in which the organs often have to remain silent due to a lack of personnel.

In the 248 churches in the Neustrelitz priory, whose catchment area extends over the church regions of Müritz, Neubrandenburg, Stargard, Stavenhagen and Strelitz, there are around 150 playable organs, as a result of numerous mergers at the same time only around 30 parishes and, according to the provost, “not much more than ten cantors ”who take care of church music full-time.

Hoped for positive effects for communities

“Many organs cannot be played”, regrets Brita Möller, district cantor for the Neubrandenburg / Stavenhagen region, and counts on the positive effects of the “Dorfkirche-Klingt” series for the communities. “We’re not saving organ and church music in the country,” says Britta Carstensen. In addition to the large number of enthusiastic summer musical concerts in the communities, the series is “an additional and very special offer”.

Kai Seiferth describes it as a worthwhile task to bring the unknown treasures under the village churches and organs to light. Holger Hanson also speaks of a social mandate: “Where there is a lot missing in the infrastructure, we have to go.” Improving the quality of life in rural areas is a core concern of Nordkurier Füreinander gGmbH, which is a subsidiary of the readers’ aid organization, which has been operating successfully for 28 years particularly cares about the promotion of culture, science, education and sport.

Musical bandwidth should arouse curiosity

With “DorfKircheKlingt” the initiators want to start out “small”: with three concerts in the Mecklenburg church and three more in the Pomeranian church district. It is by no means only organ and not only church music will be heard; The district music school also contributes to the program. Britta Carstensen would like that, given the musical range, “many people would like to come to us”.

On top of that, the concerts can be experienced free of charge. Nordkurier finances artist fees and marketing for one another; The local parishes take care of the organizational issues. “We’ll start off without a hitch,” claims Seiferth, “and what doesn’t work that way, we want to do better next time.” With a mischievous “Let’s see if three or six appointments are enough next year”, he already suggests Let’s assume that the organizers don’t want to stop at just one season.
