Call for Health to donate blood in an altruistic way for children with cancer

OAXACA, Oax., March 3, 2021.- The Hospital de la Niñez Oaxaqueña “Doctor Guillermo Zárate Mijangos” and the Oaxaca Health Services (SSO), call on society to donate blood and save lives in a generous, voluntary way and altruistic.

The person in charge of the Children’s Hospital Operation Sub-Directorate, Carlos Gonzalo Cruz Hernández, reported that mass dissemination of the need for voluntary blood donors to continue with this noble action of solidarity is of vital importance, since with the arrival of the emergency health care by COVID-19 to the entity, there was a 50% decrease with respect to donations, which means a shortage of essential blood units for the recovery of infants, mainly due to oncological diseases.

He emphasized that the pediatric medical unit requires an average of 12 blood donors daily, from each of them blood products such as globular packages, fresh plasma and platelet concentrates can be extracted; “Sometimes it is necessary up to four units of platelets per patient per day, hence the importance of the solidarity of people to ensure that many children regain their health,” he added.

The specialist emphasized that the hospital strictly implements health guidelines to protect the health of donors and medical center staff.
