“Cabin Fire and Wildfire Outbreaks in Southern Norway”

A cabin in Bjerkreim has burned down. Several others are in danger of being caught in the flames, the police reported on Saturday afternoon.

Helicopters are working furiously to try to extinguish the fire and keep it away from the cabins.

There is a fire at Lauperaksvegen near Kjørrvatnet in Bjerkreim. There is a cabin field with 10 cabins from the 70s, according to NRK.

It is windy in the area, and the wind strength varies between 7-8 m/s to 13-14 m/s.

It is still burning well and flames and smoke are going in the direction of E39. The police do not know how large an area is burning.

The cause of the fire is not clear.

Three people have been appointed by health personnel. They should not be injured, but are encouraged to visit the emergency room if necessary.

These are some of the places where vegetation is burning or has burned in southern Norway on Saturday afternoon.

The fire service and police responded to a report of a grass fire in Heivegen in Seljord that has gotten out of control. Among other things, there must be a risk of spreading to forests.

– The fire in Seljord is out of control and has spread further up into the forest. There is currently no danger of construction, but it is picking up and we don’t have a complete overview yet, says Jan Rundtom at Sør-Øst 11.

Crews from two fire stations are on their way to the fire.

Wildfire out of control

On Saturday afternoon, a grass fire broke out in Sør-Odal in Innlandet, after a wildfire got out of control. It was very dry in the area, and there was a risk that the grass fire could spread to a nearby felling field.

There is also a cottage field in the area, but according to the police there was no great danger of the fire spreading there.

– The person who started the wildfire lost control, and then it has spread northwards at Dølisjøen. It is described as the size of a football pitch. It’s burning here and there, and it’s basically pretty dry there, said operations manager at the Innlandet police district, Atle Bernhoft von Obstfelder.

The fire service brought the grass fire under control just after 2 p.m., but will be on site throughout the afternoon to monitor the fire area.

Forest fire danger has been reported in several places in Innlandet over the weekend, and the police are asking people to be extra careful if they are going to burn logs.
