According to the document presented by the Court, the right that was protected was that of “confrontation of political power enshrined in article 40 of the Political Constitution.”
“Candidates Rodolfo Hernández and Gustavo Petro are ordered to hold a presidential debate within 48 hours of notification with the rules and topics that they indicate in the request,” the document states.
Through their social networks, Catalina del Pilar Sánchez and Mauricio Urquijo, who presented the request, celebrated the Court’s decision.
From now on, the debate by order of a guardianship becomes controversial, but it also sets a precedent for future elections, as it could make a difference not only in the presidential elections this week, but also in the regional contests next year.
