Hamburg (dpa / lno) – Against the background of increasing numbers of corona infections, the health authorities in Hamburg are supported by the Bundeswehr. A total of 100 soldiers from the 164 Special Pioneer Regiment and the anti-aircraft missile group 26 from Husum would initially help with contact tracing from Tuesday until January 26, the Bundeswehr said. The operation will be coordinated by the Hamburg State Command. Some of the soldiers posted to Hamburg were already in the city in 2020 in Corona relief operation.
According to the information, it is the 54th administrative assistance application in Hamburg in connection with the corona pandemic. The administrative assistance of the Bundeswehr was initially ended on October 1, 2021 in view of the low number of infections. Due to the high incidence values in connection with the Omikron variant, the Hanseatic city has asked the Bundeswehr for support again, it said.
