With the traditional duel Borussia Mönchengladbach against FC Bayern Munich that goes Bundesliga on Friday, August 13, 2021, into their 59th season. Borussia Dortmund starts with a home game against Eintracht Frankfurt, promoted VfL Bochum travels to VfL Wolfsburg on the first match day. The first hit for VfL will be on the 5th day of the match. Then it goes to the champions Bayern Munich. On the 15th matchday (10th to 12th December) there will be a derby between the VfL Bochum and Borussia Dortmund.

After the 17th matchday (17th to 19th December), the Bundesliga will take a short winter break, and games will resume from January 7th, 2022. Only one English week is planned (16th matchday, 14/15 December). The last matchday is scheduled for May 14, 2022. The 2022 DFB Cup final will take place seven days later in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
