Bulgaria has deployed 350 troops on the border with Turkey. They will assist the police to contain the increased flow of illegal migrants. He told about this on the air of the TV channel BTV head of the country’s Defense Ministry Georgi Panayotov.
“The soldiers arrived at the Bulgarian-Turkish border today to support the police,” the minister said and added that 40 pieces of equipment were also deployed at the border.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Bulgaria, during this year more than 6.5 thousand people crossed the border illegally. This is three times the number of illegal immigrants who entered the country in nine months of 2020.
Bulgaria shares a 260 km border with Turkey. It is located on one of the key routes used by illegal immigrants to enter the EU from the Middle East and Afghanistan.
