New York (dpa) – In the most famous theater district in the world, the lights will be off due to the corona virus this year: On New York Broadway, all performances for the rest of the year were canceled on Monday.
Tickets already purchased by January 2nd would be refunded or exchanged, the industry association “The Broadway League” announced. Because of the pandemic, all performances were canceled from March 12th.
Broadway, with around 40 plays and musicals, is one of the major tourist attractions in the metropolis. In 2019, 14.7 million tickets were sold for a total of just under $ 1.8 billion. This corresponds to roughly one and a half times the ticket sales in all German cinemas.
The famous Carnegie Hall concert hall had previously announced that there would be no performances until the beginning of January 2021.
