British Prime Minister Boris Johnson married his girlfriend Carrie Symonds on Saturday. This was announced on Sunday by his office, which confirmed previous reports from the media.
Johnson became the first British Prime Minister in almost 200 years to marry while in office. “The Prime Minister and Mrs. Symonds got married during a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on Saturday afternoon. The couple will celebrate the wedding with family and friends next summer,” the office said.
Johnson, 56, has lived with Symonds, 33, at the British Prime Minister’s home on Downing Street since 2019, when a conservative politician became prime minister. Last April, their son Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson was born.
The tabloid The Sun said on Saturday night that the ceremony was attended by only 30 guests who received a last-minute invitation. Currently, only 30 people in Britain can take part in wedding ceremonies due to coronavirus measures. Recently, the letter also wrote that the couple is planning a wedding until July next year, when the couple sent out invitations to family and friends.
Reuters reminded that the conservative prime minister is twice divorced and refuses to say how many children he has. Until now, the only British Prime Minister to marry in office was Robert Jenkinson in 1822.
