British Paralyzed Citizen Abandoned by Ryanair: Wheelchair Too Big for Flight

British citizen Ian St John, 45, who was paralyzed by a spinal cord tumor seven years ago and is now confined to a wheelchair, had booked a seat on a Ryanair flight from Cork to Liverpool on September 2 to watch Liverpool football club ” game against “Aston Villa” and participate in the golf tournament.

As is customary in such cases, he sent the dimensions of his wheelchair to the airline before the flight. However, Saint John did not receive any response from “Ryanair”.

St. John arrived at the airport five hours before his flight, but airport staff said his wheelchair was too big to fit on the plane.

The man also noted that there was no airline employee standing at the gate to help him get on the plane. The fact that he would not be taken on the plane was told late – at 10.30, shortly before departure.

“Ryanair abandoned me without telling me in time that I could not get on the plane. The moment I realized I was abandoned, my heart started pounding and I felt sick. I cried in the airport,” Saint John told the local media “Liverpool Echo”.

“I was waiting at the airport from three in the morning until eleven in the morning. I have never experienced such discrimination before. In 2023, something like this is simply unbelievable.”
