British film award Bafta: Chloé Zhao’s “Nomadland” honored as best film

The American film »Nomadland« by the Chinese director Chloé Zhao is the winner of the evening with four awards at the British film awards known as Baftas. The road movie won the award for best film at the awards ceremony in London’s Royal Albert Hall on Sunday. Zhao received the Bafta for best director, Frances McDormand was awarded for best leading actress. In addition, »Nomadland« received the camera award.

With the triumph at the Bafta Awards, the film has further consolidated its role as a favorite at the Oscars, which will take place in two weeks’ time. On Saturday, the Directors Guild of America (DGA), in which the US directors are united, awarded the film in the main category “Best Feature Film”.

The DGA awards given in Hollywood are considered a good indicator of who will win the directing Oscar. Aside from last year, they were right every time in the winner’s freestyle in the previous six years.

The film is about a growing group of impoverished elderly people living in trailers in the United States who cling to the last vestiges of the American dream.
