In order to be able to smoke undetected in an elevator at Freiburg Central Station, a 17-year-old damaged the surveillance camera installed there with a lighter. According to an initial assessment, the damage to property is 1000 euros. The federal police have initiated an investigation into property damage.

Yesterday, Wednesday (April 6th, 2022), around 10:00 p.m., the federal police station in Freiburg im Breisgau was informed that there were several young people in the elevator to the city railway bridge on platform 7, who would manipulate the surveillance camera there. A federal police patrol found five young people smoking in the elevator upon arrival. In order to be able to smoke without being recognized, a 17-year-old German national is said to have held a lighter to the surveillance camera. The resulting soot blackened the camera, but the resulting heat damaged the camera cover. Due to the resulting damage, the surveillance camera was no longer operational and the elevator had to be taken out of service by a service employee. According to an initial assessment, the amount of damage is estimated at 1000 euros. The 17-year-old will have to answer for property damage. She will also face civil law claims.
