The Professional Association of Austrian Psychologists (BÖP) marks a professional policy milestone and a membership record on its 70th anniversary
Vienna (OTS) – The year 2023 is for the Professional Association of Austrian Psychologists (BÖP) a very special one in many ways. Exactly 70 years ago today, on October 24, 1953, the BÖP was founded and has a new high of 6,800 members. To celebrate the 70th anniversary, the BÖP, together with the Austrian Academy of Psychology | ÖAP on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the Austria Center Vienna in Vienna for the festival conference entitled “Future. Psychology. Conference on 70 years of BÖP”.
But the 70th anniversary of the BÖP is not the only reason to celebrate. We would also be happy to have one historical milestone in mental health care in Austria, which was achieved this month. According to the Council of Ministers decision of July 25, 2023 that clinical-psychological treatment (psychological therapy) in the General Social Insurance Act (ASVG) will be included, clinical psychological treatment (psychological therapy) will be equated with medical help for the first time in history from 2024. This means that there will be the possibility of billing with social security, which will be of great help to many people in the future. This fulfills a long-standing demand from the BÖP after decades of negotiation work.
“This achievement is the result of the commitment of many stakeholders in healthcare and beyond. Our professional group has gained increasing visibility and recognition in recent years – and that is exactly what we want to express at our specialist conference to mark 70 years of BÖP,” said BÖP President ao. University Prof. Dr. Beate Wimmer-Puchinger.
