Bombs and Prohibited Objects Found in Guayaquil Prisons During Control Operation

In the midst of the operation to control weapons, ammunition and other prohibited objects inside the prisons of Guayaquil, even bombs were found inside the offices of the SNAI (National Comprehensive Care Service for adults deprived of their liberty and adolescent offenders).

The State Attorney General’s Office reported, this Friday, August 4, 2023, that following the inspection of the pavilions in the Litoral Penitentiary, the uniformed officers of the National Police and the Armed Forces found rifles, bombs, grenades, explosives, money in cash and drugs inside the SNAI.

Even the roof where the officials of the institution work, whose job it is to maintain control of the prisons, was used as a hiding place for prohibited objects.

Regarding the actions carried out in prisons, the President of the Republic, Guillermo Lasso, stated that “once again, for the safety of citizens and people deprived of their liberty, @FFAAECUADOR and @PoliciaEcuador entered the CPL 2 and 5 at 05:45 today, in Guayaquil”.

On his Twitter account, the president emphasized that the objective of these operations is to “pacify the country’s prisons.”

Between early morning and the morning of this Friday, August 4, a new control operation was also carried out, in which more prohibited objects were seized.

Two thousand elements of the forces of order entered the pavilions of the Deprivation of Liberty Centers 2 (women) and 5 of Guayas (men). Weapons, ammunition and explosives were seized.

The interventions were carried out within the framework of the state of emergency decreed by the Government in the national penitentiary system since July 25, when the massacre at the Litoral Penitentiary was joined by a hunger strike by prisoners in thirteen prisons, where in seven Of these, the inmates retained 137 prison officers.
