Bombardier wants to secure orders with a guarantee

The rail vehicle manufacturer Bombardier wants to secure orders and suppliers with a guarantee from the federal and state governments. This was announced by Bombardier’s CEO Michael Fohrer after a conversation with Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Minister of Economics Martin Dulig. He didn’t want to comment on details. Negotiations with IG Metall and the General Works Council of Bombardier are due to be completed in September. Until then, Fohrer ruled out layoffs.

Many jobs at risk

Just under three weeks ago, further savings plans had become public at Bombardier. According to IG Metall, employees should forego Christmas and holiday bonuses and pay increases and work longer without financial compensation. According to the “Handelsblatt” 1,000 jobs are also at risk. Bombardier Germany chief Michael Fohrer had not commented on the numbers, but confirmed that there is a concept for more competitiveness. It means that employees participate in cost reductions. The aim is to secure location and employment.
