So far, Gottstein has headed the Swiss business and was involved with the CS in Stadler Rail’s IPO in April 2019.

The power struggle between President Urs Rohner (60) and CS boss Tidjane Thiam (57) has been decided, and the winner is Rohner. Thiam will have to step down on February 14 after the 2019 figures are presented. The twelve board members of the big bank and their president Urs Rohner made the decision on Thursday to drop Thiam.

His resignation is the consequence of the shadowing affair surrounding the star anchor Iqbal Khan (43). This scandal became public last September – and already there the BLICK community discussed the right and wrong of the action in the comment column, wondered about the future of the CS and speculated whether Thiam might have knowledge of the shading, even if he still denies any knowledge about it today.
–
It is precisely this conflict that ensures that Thiam has lost credibility with the readership. Dieter Kaiser, for example, writes: «He should take care of what’s going on at the management level and not come with excuses that he didn’t know about it. And if it really should be like this, then you don’t just need a spine, but a backbone! Trying to sit out the affair is probably the cheapest and easiest option. »

Clear verdict of the readers
That the readers struggled with Thiam is also reflected in a BLICK survey: 79 percent of readers think Thiam’s resignation is good – especially for the future of CS. Only 11 percent regret the departure and 10 percent are still undecided (as of 12:25 p.m.).
–
A similar picture in the comment column. There are almost no posts that regret the departure. Many even want President Rohner to stop. Markus Meier writes, for example: «Rohner has to go too. If the top executives have no idea of all the shading, they have no control over the shop. »
–
The situation of the bank was also no longer satisfactory for reader and CS customer Arkon Meier. «In the end, Thiam was just a burden. The employees at the counter were always confronted with his negative image, ”Meier writes and adds hopefully:“ I personally like the CS and I like my account there. It will be better!”

«It takes an epochal turn!»
Will things really get better at CS after Thiam’s departure? The community is divided. Margitta Wüest, for example, writes: “It is very doubtful whether the problem of CS with the departure of Tidjane Thiam has been solved. As is well known, the fish stinks from the head. “Gérard Moccetti is also unsure, especially with regard to Thiam’s successor Thomas Gottstein:” Gottstein will also not be able to maneuver the CS out of the mud. It takes an epochal change at CS! »(Ah)
