In a video published on Wednesday 5 October by the Instagram account “Support women Iran”, dozens of personalities participate in this movement that wants to denounce the “terrible repression” demonstrations that have already killed nearly a hundred people, according to NGOs. “We therefore decided to answer the call that was made to us by cutting some of these locks too”is written under the video.
Among these artists, we see in particular Marion Cotillard, Isabelle Adjani, Angèle, Pomme, Alexandra Lamy, Isabelle Huppert, Laure Camaly, Jane Birkin and Charlotte Gainsbourg, Julie Gayet, Mélanie Laurent or Juliette Binoche, who explains by making this gesture “for freedom”. In the background, the resumption of Italian singing Hello beautiful by the Iranian singer Gandom, which became the anthem of protest.
“Iranian women are not alone”
The movement was initiated by human rights lawyer Richard Sédillot, in collaboration with the president of Paris Julie Couturier, and the former president of the National Forensic Council, Christiane Feral Schuhl.
