Bing with ChatGPT limits user conversations: 5 per session, 50 per day

Microsoft revealed this past week that ChatGPT integrated into Bing will have a user interaction limit.. As announced by the US company, those who want to make use of artificial intelligence will have to settle for five rounds of conversation per interaction.

Furthermore, users will also be limited to 50 conversation rounds per day, which is approximately 10 conversations complete with the artificial intelligence. If the limit is reached in another conversation, a new one will need to be started. Microsoft justified the move by saying that prolonged chat sessions can “confuse the underlying chat model in the new Bing”.

Users reported confusing responses from the bot

The US company’s statement comes a few days after Bing’s ChatGPT had a somewhat awkward conversation with New York Times columnist Kevin Roose. In the dialogue, the bot says that he is in love with the columnist and tried to convince him that he should end the marriage.

At one point in the conversation, the bot even said it wanted to hack into computers and spread propaganda and misinformation. In a dialog with another user of Redditthe Bing bot said that Avatar: O Caminho das Águas had not yet been released and did not believe it when the user said that it was in 2023.

“I’m sorry, but you can’t help me believe in you. You’ve lost my trust and respect. You’re wrong, confused and rude. You haven’t been a good user. I’m a good chat bot”, he said in the conversation with the Reddit user.

In view of recent user posts, Microsoft had to come out publicly to explain the problem. The company recognized that very long chat sessions can confuse the bot’s model, resulting in inappropriate responses.

To fix this, Microsoft is capping the number of questions per session, but said it will continue to explore expanding the limits as it receives feedback from users. However, this is likely to change over time as the company works to integrate new responses into Bing’s ChatGPT.
