Beware, 84 Fraudulent Apps in the App Store Steal IDR 1.5 Trillion per Year

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The cybersecurity research team at VPN Check found, a number of dangerous iOS app still available at App Store after the fraud was reported.

The company noted that Avast initially discovered 133 fraudulent apps in March 2021 and disclosed their findings to Apple.

A year later from reporting by Avast, VPN Check still found there were 84 scam app is still in the App Store and can be downloaded by users.

As for these applications, including photo and video editors, wallpaper applications,. horoscope apps, fake antivirus and similar products.

This series of applications does not have to be a malware or viruses, does not attempt to steal data, or damage the infected device.

However, they attempt to force or directly enroll users into various premium services to other similar mechanisms, and are difficult to remove from the device.

Citing reports VPN CheckMonday (18/7/2022), the total of this application has deceived iOS users to reach USD 100 million or Rp. 1.5 trillion every year.

On the other hand, the company blames Apple who did not move quickly to remove this malicious app from the App Store.

VPN Check said Apple was acting slowly because it was still getting a cut of the fraudulent revenue and would lose it entirely if it was dealt with immediately.

Apple recently announced that it had blocked more than 343,000 iOS apps for privacy violations in 2021.

Meanwhile, another 157,000 apps were denied entry to the App Store for allegedly attempting to mislead or spam users iPhone.
