Better contact: Lower Silesia opens regional office in Dresden

An office in the neighboring Polish region of Lower Silesia was opened in Dresden on Tuesday in the immediate vicinity of the State Chancellery. The new office is to become a kind of embassy for the Polish neighbors in the state capital, the focus is on the exchange with Saxony. Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and the Lower Silesian Marshal Cezary Przybylski have signed a corresponding declaration.

Above all, it is about contacts between business, science and culture. The office should also attract tourists and guests and lure them to the neighboring Polish region. Lower Silesia has been a partner region of the Free State for 21 years.

Good experience in Wroclaw

Saxony has been running a very similar office in the regional capital of Wroclaw for more than ten years. It should be a showcase for Saxony in Poland and support cross-border projects. For Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer, the liaison office is a good investment in cooperation with the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

We saw what a great effect the office in Wroclaw has, because you are always present, because you are always available.

Better contact thanks to short distances

It is no coincidence that the Lower Silesian office is now in the middle of Dresden’s government district. Here you can meet regularly and exchange ideas, said Prime Minister Kretschmer at the opening. He hopes that this will result in an even closer cooperation with the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, which is considered to be one of the economically strongest regions in Poland: “Wroclaw is growing, it is incredibly dynamic. We can benefit from it.”

But Lower Silesia would also like to benefit from the good contacts in Saxony. Kretschmer’s Lower Silesian counterpart Cezary Przybylski therefore sees just as much potential in mutual exchange. “For many years we have been trying to manage our common border area with Saxony well. I believe that we can achieve a lot more together.”

In addition to the areas of economy and culture, the exchange should also take place at the administrative level and include the joint fight against cross-border crime. In addition, exchange programs in research, culture, education and youth are to be created. Climate change issues are also to be tackled together.
