Belgium allows family visits to the Netherlands from Saturday again NOW

Belgians who have family members who live in neighboring countries, including the Netherlands, can visit their family again from Saturday. This is reported by the Belgian minister of the Interior and Security Pieter De Crem Facebook. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, this was not allowed for more than two months.

According to De Crem, the border police are informed about the adjustment in the policy. The decree that makes the visiting arrangements possible will be made public on Saturday.

On March 20, the Belgian government closed its borders to non-essential transport because of the COVID-19 virus. According to De Crem, he was aware of the impact this decision had on family members of Belgians living in neighboring countries. That is why he says he has been looking for a solution for the past three weeks.

Borders open further from 15 June

In addition to the visiting arrangement, De Crem also announces that Belgium, like many other European countries, wants to further open its borders from 15 June for non-essential travel for travelers within the European Union and the Schengen area.

Belgians who want to cross the border to visit family members must adhere to the guidelines that apply in neighboring countries because of the corona virus.

De Crem says on Facebook that he wishes the Belgians to whom the scheme applies a “happy reunion”. “I’m counting on people to behave responsibly and deal appropriately with their newfound freedom,” he says.
