Belarusian went to jail because of anecdote about Lukashenka

Severe punishment was imposed on the watchman for publicly insulting the unrecognized Belarusian president

A drunk man told an anecdote about Lukashenka and called him a “moron”. He published the corresponding video on the social network.

In Belarus, a watchman of one of the industrial enterprises was accused of insulting the president and opened criminal proceedings against him. The case ended with a court verdict – a year and a half of imprisonment in a strict regime colony. This is reported by the Belarusian edition Our Niva.

The reason for accusing the watchman Mikhail Lintovsky of insulting Lukashenka (punishment for insulting the president is stipulated by Article 368 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, – ed.) Was a video that he published on the Odnoklassniki social network. The accused, being drunk, told a joke about Lukashenka and called him a “moron”.

According to the defendant, later he wanted to delete what was published while no one was watching, but he went to work and forgot about it. Soon police officers came to him and detained him.

The Miory District Court (Vitebsk Region), having considered the case, found that the word used by the accused “has a negative assessment and an abnormal form” damages honor and dignity, is aimed at undermining Lukashenka’s authority, forming a negative stereotype and negative image of Lukashenka.

For publicly insulting the unrecognized Belarusian president, the watchman was sentenced to severe punishment – 1 year and 6 months in a maximum security colony. The accused was taken into custody in the courtroom.

Earlier it was reported that in Belarus the rapper is being tried for the song “Lukashenko, go away!”… Authorities found the 22-year-old musician’s song offensive. The young man faces up to four years in prison and a large fine.
