Beijing Fighting Against New Clusters, China Lockdown Half a Million Citizens

Beijing

China enact lockdown against almost half a million people in a province around the capital. The government warned the Corona outbreak was still “severe and complicated.”

For information, hundreds of people have been infected in Beijing and several cases have emerged in the neighboring province of Hebei in recent weeks, after previously China managed to control this pandemic.

Reported AFPOn Sunday (6/28/2020), health officials said that the Anxin region – about 150 kilometers from Beijing – would be “completely closed and controlled”. These are the strict measures that have been implemented at the height of the pandemic Wuhan earlier this year.

The regional task force said only one person from each family was allowed to go out once a day to buy necessities such as food and medicine.

This step was taken after 14 cases of the virus were reported in the last 24 hours in Beijing, a total of 311 since mid-June and spurred testing of millions of residents.

This outbreak was first detected in the Beijing Xinfadi wholesale food market which supplies many of the city’s fresh products. So far, almost a third of cases have been linked to one piece of beef and goat on the market, where workers must be quarantined for a month, city officials said.

The official Xinhua news agency reported that businesses in Anxin supply freshwater fish to the Xinfadi market. Around 12 new cases of the corona virus were found in the area – including 11 related to Xinfadi, according to a government-run Global Times report.

New cases in Beijing have sparked concerns about the rise of the Corona virus in China. Beijing has conducted mass tests on restaurant workers, middle-risk and high-risk residents and shipping couriers on the market for the past two weeks.
