Beijing Express fatal accident: “Blood runs on my cheeks”, Aurore and Jonathan tell (EXCLUDED)

The end of the adventure was complicated for Aurore and Jonathan. As M6 viewers discovered during the episode of Beijing Express 2021 from April 6, the couple was the victim of a road accident. A terrible event to which they returned to Purepeople.

Can you tell us exactly what happened?

Jonathan : We were perhaps fifteen or twenty minutes from Stéphane Rotenberg at that time, on a magnificent road by the sea. It was a bit winding and in a place that was rather uphill, with a sequence of turns. And a motorist lost control of his vehicle during a turn while driving rather fast. He hit our vehicle head-on on Aurore’s side.

What is going on in your head right now?

Aurore : For me nothing is happening. I did not see the car arrive. We were laughing with our cameraman. And he had the chance to put his camera down, thank goodness for him. I think a minute later we had the accident. I have no recollection of what happened afterwards.
Jonathan : We can see his life go by. It’s funny how the brain is able to flashback and finally pull certain memories out of certain boxes. It’s a pretty crazy mental imbroglio. Afterwards we are quickly overtaken by the urgency of the situation.
Aurore : When there was the impact, I didn’t understand what had happened. As I raise my head, I feel the blood running down my cheeks and Jonathan tells me that I must absolutely get out to get to safety. I have a very bad headache. I’m like, ‘Bug, we came to play and I’m going to die on the side of the road. I wouldn’t even have time to say goodbye to everyone. ‘ We tell ourselves that life will end there and we don’t know why it’s us at that time.

Jonathan, did you give him first aid afterwards?

After the impact, my first instinct was to turn to Aurore. And indeed, I see a gaping wound that goes from the arch to the scalp. I am worried but I keep a certain cool. My first reaction is to get out of the vehicle because you can be in danger as you are still on the road. Then I lay Aurore down because in case of bleeding, that’s what to do. I see that she can leave at any time so I put her in PLS (lateral safety position) and I protect her wound while waiting for first aid.

You were transferred to the hospital. What happened there?

Aurore : From there, even though I was conscious at times, I have no memory.
Jonathan : The ambulance first took us to a public hospital for emergency first aid. Namely an MRI to ensure the absence of internal bleeding. It is the fear we had with regard to the very strong impact on Aurore’s face. Once this essential point was ruled out, they sutured her in an operating room. Then we were transferred to a private clinic to have controls and a new check-up. In all, we stayed in the hospital for three nights. Then we were taken to a hotel to rest because the shock was such that Aurora had frontal edema which prevented her from taking the plane right away.
Aurore : We were afraid it would leak. My dread was that someone could take a picture and distribute it. So we had to warn our families quickly. The production informed them quickly saying that we were taken care of. But we had to call them. We first did it without video on the pretext that we did not have WiFi and that it was not working, to protect them a little because my face was completely deformed. When I look at the photos again today, I tell myself that I think I have passed through the most beautiful door of my life. Then we tried a video with my mother-in-law. When she saw me, she collapsed. So I thought to myself that I couldn’t call my mom because she was living on her own and it was going to be a disaster. We waited a bit, finding an excuse that my mother wanted to believe. But I felt after my return that she understood that it was very serious.

After how long were you able to return to France?

Aurore : Almost at the same time as the people who played the final. We must have stayed ten more days.
