At the age of 46, Mr. Radim could not even imagine that he would suffer from a cruel disease – cancer. Although he had abdominal pain since the spring, he did not want to see a doctor. He was afraid of the Covidem-19 infection. “I’ve been in pain for a while, but I still hesitated because I was afraid of some covid infection. Because there was more movement of people, I put it off,” he told Nova TV.
He regrets it now. According to doctors, the tumor would be caught in time, now it will be with complications. “I certainly would not advise those people to do such nonsense so that they do not see a doctor,” Mr Radim added.
In the Czech Republic, around 100,000 people hear a similar diagnosis every year, and almost a third of them succumb to the insidious disease. Prevention is important. This is also proved by the case of Mr Peter.
“I came to this diagnosis by accident at a preventive examination. Therefore, I recommend others, even if they have no symptoms, to go for those examinations. I had no symptoms, but the diagnosis showed prostate cancer,” Peter confided.
“Coronavirus certainly cannot be underestimated, it is necessary to observe safety and hygiene rules, but at the same time it is necessary to observe the treatment of tumors and in case of problems to come to the doctor in time,” points out Jaromír Richter, head of the radiotherapy department at Novojičín Hospital.
One of the patients is 52-year-old Mr. Miroslav from Větřkovice in the Opava region with colon cancer. “You should definitely not hesitate to visit a doctor, covid is an unpleasant affair, but it is still important to visit doctors,” he says.
