THE HAGUE –
Beach tent holder André Triep is cautiously positive about the extra enforcers and agents who are deployed to tackle nuisances in Scheveningen. “It is a good start, a good intention and we will see how it works out in practice,” says Triep, who is also chairman of the Scheveningen Beach Operators’ Association.

Scheveningen has been suffering from a lot of nuisance for some time, such as street racing, drug use and intimidation. Residents and entrepreneurs rang the bell several times. “I am happy that something has now been put down on paper,” says André Triep. “Let’s just hope the bureaucratic mill will start up soon.” The Municipality of The Hague has announced that the police are deploying two additional community police officers and that 19 police officers from the beach police will be focusing on the boulevard and the port.
A special police team will be set up to tackle street racing and more police will be on horseback. A municipal spokesperson said in an explanation on behalf of the police that no statements are made about ‘the operational deployment, so the redeployment of teams or extra agents there’. It remains unclear how many extra agents are sent to Scheveningen and where they come from.
‘Showing the force’
The municipality will release 18 boas that will be deployed in the seaside resort, in addition to the existing Scheveningen enforcement team. “This is at the expense of supervision in other places in the city,” admits Alderman Boudewijn Revis. “But you can, because there is a flexible enforcement team available. We will have to do a lot of ‘showing the force’ to bonjour these annoying men from Scheveningen, ‘Revis says firmly.
The Hague city councilor does not comment on when the extra agents and enforcers actually get to work. Triep would like to see action as soon as possible: ‘The next weekend and as soon as the temperature shoots up, you have to be ready. Being flexible applies to beach bars but also to the police. Scaling up when the weather is nice. ‘
