Bayern Munich had outclassed the second division champions 7-0 in the first half of the season. After the early lead by Robert Lewandowski, a renewed victory for Munich seemed more likely than one of the rare Bochum successes against the record champions. However the Table-11. shone and took a 4-1 lead by the break.
Bochum made the preliminary decision with three goals between the 38th and 44th minute. The last two goals by the Costa Rican Cristian Gamboa and the outstanding winger Gerrit Holtmann were particularly worth seeing. Only after the break Bayern Munich had numerous chances, but could only use those of Lewandowski to make it 2: 4. Julian Nagelsmann’s team was unable to prevent their first defeat against Bochum in 18 years.
Bayer Leverkusen in third reduced the gap to Bayern Munich to eleven points. In the 4-2 home win against Stuttgart, Moussa Diaby, Amine Adli, Florian Wirtz and Patrik Schick scored the goals for Gerardo Seoane’s team for the fourth time in a row. Second-placed Dortmund plays Union Berlin on Sunday.
Breathe a sigh of relief near Mönchengladbach
Borussia Mönchengladbach, who have been so disappointing this season, managed to beat Augsburg 3-2 after four home defeats in a row and thus moved a little away from the dangerous table zone. The young French midfielder Kouadio Koné, the German international Jonas Hofmann and the Algerian Ramy Bensebaini with the 3-1 in the 67th minute scored the goals of the Gladbacher, who went into the match with the Swiss Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and Breel Embolo.
Premiere for Greuther Furth
Wolfsburg also gained more air in the relegation battle thanks to the 2-0 win at Eintracht Frankfurt. Max Kruse, who had just been taken over by Union Berlin, scored the 1-0 with a penalty.
The Swede Branimir Hrgota scored twice for Greuther Fürth at the bottom to make it 2-1 against Hertha Berlin and gave the promoted team a home win in front of a crowd for the first time in more than one and a half contested Bundesliga seasons. The first two successes in their own stadium came about in front of empty ranks.
