The request of Avner Netanyahu, the Prime Minister’s son, to delete the Wikipedia entry about him was accepted. Today the entry was deleted after a vote that lasted several days and at the end of which 75 Wikipedia writers decided to comply with Netanyahu’s demand and reasoning that his entry “is of no importance to the public”. 54 voters opposed the deletion. Now, whoever enters Avner’s entry is automatically directed to the “personal life” category in the Prime Minister’s entry.

Following Avner’s request, Wikipedia held a vote on the issue and the discussion surrounding the vote was open to everyone. “About five years ago, there was one vote missing for the deletion of the entry, in a deletion vote. Now Avner Netanyahu contacted us and asked to delete the entry about him due to lack of importance,” it was written at the beginning of the debate.

According to Wikipedia’s voting policy, only registered users with a seniority of 30 days and 100 edits in the main space or in the spaces adjacent to it during the 90 days preceding the start of the vote (ie edits of talk pages, policy pages, etc. are not counted) have the right to vote. Also, voting is prohibited for a paid editor. According to the deletion policy, a qualified majority of 55% or higher is required to delete a value. In Netanyahu’s case, over 60% supported the deletion.

One of the supporters of the deletion justified his decision as follows: “The content of the entry does not create meaning other than being the son of the prime minister, and I agree with his request.” Another wrote: “The mere fact that he is the son of a prime minister does not confer importance regardless of his request.”

On the other hand, users who wanted to keep the entry argued: “The importance of the entry has been discussed several times in the past, including as part of a deletion vote, and it remains intact. It cannot be ignored,” “It is borderline, but there is public interest in the matter of the entry, the public is interested. In addition, the fact According to our draconian laws, if the value is deleted it will be very difficult to return it, decisively my position against the deletion.”

On April 8, Netanyahu deleted a significant part of the “personal life” paragraph in which his engagement to Noi Bar in 2021 and the separation of the two after a few months were mentioned. In fact, he left only the part where it was written that he was a fan of the Beitar Jerusalem team. Now, this part has also dropped along with all the value he was dealing with.
