Avian flu in Uden, 46,000 chicks and chickens killed

Bird flu was diagnosed on Wednesday at a poultry farm with broilers and chickens in Uden. All 46,000 animals are slaughtered.

There is another poultry farm within a one kilometer circle of the affected farm. The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) will closely monitor this company for two weeks for symptoms that could indicate bird flu.

Projection and monsters
Further on, in an area of three kilometers, there are five poultry farms. These are also screened and samples will be taken. There are 82 other poultry farms in the 10 kilometer area of the Uden Poultry Farm, including a poultry slaughterhouse.

There is a transport ban for all farm birds and eggs. It is also not allowed to carry bird manure. This also applies to used waste and other animals and animal products from poultry farms.

Hunting ban
In addition, it is no longer allowed to hunt ducks in an area of 10 kilometers around the farm or in areas where this could disturb waterfowl.

In late October, bird flu appeared on a poultry farm in Neerkant. To prevent spread, 25,000 laying hens have been culled.

National confinement obligation
Due to the growing number of avian influenza cases, a national obligation to keep poultry and other bird species has been in place since 5 October.
