After initial turmoil in the AUA negotiations, the talks are now apparently on track. The experts from both sides are in constant contact, said PR consultant Alfred Autischer, who speaks for the corona aid financing agency COFAG, on Wednesday at the APA. There is not much in the way of liquidity aid anymore, he referred to “constructive talks”.
The AUA needs an Austrian house bank to apply to COFAG. Due to the amount – up to 800 million euros are rumored – it will probably be a consortium, i.e. an association of several banks that share the risk. The Republic is liable for 90 percent of the loan in the form of a guarantee. According to the COFAG spokesman, there have already been applications from 4,000 companies to the agency, which manages 15 of the 38 billion euros in state aid.

At the same time, AUA is to hold talks on a second level about a location guarantee between the government and the German owner, Lufthansa AG in Frankfurt. On the Austrian side, as the APA found out, a negotiation team with experts is currently being put together to contact the Lufthansa Executive Board. It should be ready next week. In addition, you also coordinate with other countries such as Belgium or Switzerland, in which Lufthansa also has subsidiary airlines.

COFAG processes several forms of guarantee in the background. For large companies this is up to EUR 120 million, in exceptional cases like the AUA it can be more. The control bank (OeKB) is involved for large companies, the aws development bank for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the hotel and tourism bank (ÖHT) for tourism and leisure businesses. The contact person for companies that need help is the house bank.
