MEXICALI, BC (apro) .- The criminal lawyer Cuauhtémoc Castilla Gracia, who served as undersecretary of the Penitentiary System during the first five months of the government of Jaime Bonilla, suffered an attack this Tuesday outside his office.
This is the second lawyer attacked in the last 24 hours. In the first minutes of yesterday, Ernesto Kennedy Pardini was executed in the port of Ensenada.
Today, around 2 in the afternoon, Castilla Gracia, who is handling the case of two people (mother and daughter) who died when they were run over by an individual while intoxicated, received at least one shot at the neck.
The renowned lawyer was transferred to a private hospital and at the moment the severity of the injury is unknown.
The attackers fled in a Honda car with plates from Anapromex, an association that grants “plates and permission” to circulate to so-called “chocolate” cars (those acquired in the United States and cannot be imported because they are older than eight years ).
The vehicle was later located in the vicinity of the Pasadina neighborhood, in an area with low economic resources.
The lawyer is a professor at the university and his participation in the Undersecretariat of the Penitentiary System has been his only foray into public service. He is currently handling the case of the two women run over, and has argued that at least 11 authorities, including municipal police, have distorted the facts to protect those who were driving while intoxicated.
