We never thought of writing this one day, but it was until proof to the contrary Lenovo that presented the most interesting computers at CES! From the multitude of new products announced at the show, two models in particular are striking. The first is the ThinkPad X1 Fold, which doubles the placement on the front of foldable devices after the reboot RAZR unveiled late last year – remember that Motorola belongs to the Chinese manufacturer.
This machine, which has already had a presentation in last may, has the particularity of being a foldable tablet that can be transformed into a laptop (unless it is the reverse). The lower half of the screen acts as a virtual keyboard. Lenovo also offers a Bluetooth keyboard that clings magnetically to the chassis.
Technically speaking, the ThinkPad X1 Fold has a 13.3-inch (2,048 x 1,536) OLED screen. Its weight is 1 kg, its autonomy of 11 hours. It works under Windows 10, but Windows 10X is in the crosshairs since it is the version of the operating system intended for this particular design; the Microsoft Neo Surface, with its two screens, will also benefit (Lenovo promises a Windows 10X version for later).
There are still many questions, including the durability of the hinge, the resistance of the screen to scratches, or simply the on-board processor (from Intel, but we don’t know much more). We will quickly be introduced, since the manufacturer will launch this machine by summer, at a price of $ 2,499. The Windows 10X version will be marketed ” at a later date “.
Lenovo was not satisfied with this Fold. The manufacturer also unveiled a new member in its range of Yoga hybrid computers. This model is capable of hooking up the 5G network via the Qualcomm X55 5G modem (millimeter waves and frequencies below 6 GHz), a first for a laptop. It is also a Windows PC equipped with an Arm chip, in this case the Snapdragon 8cx, the top of the range for this kind of product.
In terms of technical characteristics, the Yoga 5G includes a 14-inch IPS screen (1080p, 400 nits of luminance), 8 GB of RAM, 256 to 512 GB of storage, two USB-C ports, a jack port, a slot nano SIM (the device also supports eSIM). Advantage of Arm chips, Lenovo also promises a battery life of … 24 hours. All from $ 1,499 with spring availability. It is attractive, but it will nevertheless be necessary to worry about the performances which, on these machines, are not necessarily exceptional (read: Surface Pro X: not-so-good performance for Microsoft’s shiny Arm tablet).
