Corona crisis: Bavaria is increasingly buying canned goods and drinks

The corona crisis is partially noticeable in Bavaria’s supermarkets: groceries are experiencing increased demand for durable foods such as pasta, canned goods and beverages. The suppliers have therefore already increased their inventories, said the Bavarian trade association. Spokesman Bernd Ohlmann, however, emphasized when asked about the BR that there was no general trend towards buying hamsters. Empty shelves are possible in individual cases. But that is not evidence of a nationwide scarcity.

Partially empty shelves in the state capital

Several BR reporters unanimously report that they stood in front of empty shelves in supermarkets and discounters in the state capital Munich. An employee of a grocery store also told the dpa news agency: Since Monday, numerous canned goods, pasta and fruit have been in increasing demand. Because the suppliers could not deliver more than the usual amount, some shelves were currently empty.

Disinfectant partially sold out

Disinfectants are apparently in particularly high demand because of the corona crisis: BR reporters have also observed here that shelves have been cleared.
