At least 74 migrants drowned off the coast of Libya

So far, 31 bodies of victims have been caught. “Rescue work is still ongoing,” the AFP quoted the IOM report as saying.

According to the IOM, at least 900 people drowned in the Mediterranean this year in an attempt to get to Europe, 19 of them earlier this week. The ship is operated by the NGO Open Arms, which recently saved 200 migrants from drowning. However, she does not always manage to arrive on time.

Since the beginning of October, the IOM has seen a sharp increase in the number of migrants leaving the Libyan coast. Since the beginning of October, more than 780 of them have arrived in Italy, writes AP.

Another 11,000 people have been sent back to Libya, where they will be at risk of “human rights violations, arrests, abuse, human trafficking and exploitation,” according to the IOM report.
