Toilet paper. The Austrian Post put on sale, on October 30, a stamp printed on toilet paper.
La Poste had an elephant drawn on these stamps, because “At the start of the pandemic in March, the government asked people to respect a distance of one meter, the length of this small animal”, the head of communication of the Austrian postal institution, Markus Leitgeb, told AFP.
These special prints come in immaculate blocks each the shape and size of a standard sheet of toilet paper measuring ten centimeters in length, with a stamp embedded in them.
“By placing ten blocks of stamps next to each other, we obtain the length of a baby elephant”, adds the spokesman, specifying that this image had allowed the Austrians to visualize the distance necessary on a daily basis.
It is offered at a price of 5.50 euros (2.75 + 2.75 euros), half of this amount being donated to charities.
In total, 300,000 copies were printed and the local post office specifies that to affix it to an envelope, it is not necessary to dampen the stamp … with a self-adhesive back (.- AFP).
Official. Some modifications to the official philatelic programs for 2020 and 2021 were published in Official newspaper.
Thus, the stamp on the flag of France at the Universal Exhibition of Dubai 2020 is postponed to 2021, due to coronavirus.
The “Ariane 6. Inaugural launch” stamp is deleted.

With Goldorak, Philaposte, the philatelic engineering service of La Poste winks sympathetically to its communications director, Ségolène Godeluck, whose father – Bruno-René Huchez (1943-2016) – was distributor, author and producer of cartoons, among which Goldorak: “It is he who imported in France and in Europe Grendizer, Captain Flam, Albator, Candy… I am of the Goldorak generation”, Ségolène Godeluck clarified.
Engraved stamp art. The association Art du timbre gravé (ATG) publishes a box set on the occasion of its fifteenth anniversary, designed by Sophie Beaujard and Elsa Catelin, laid out by Sylvie Patte and Tanguy Besset, which brings together drawings made by the sixty-one stamp artists members of the association.
Presenting themselves as an alphabet book, the artists have declined their work according to their subjects starting with the letters A, T or G.
In a pocket which pays tribute to the engraver Claude Andréotto (1949-2017) are inserted six sheets printed in offset and intaglio. Each folio includes seven drawings and three engravings. One of the sheets includes a specific embossing created by the engraver medalist, Meilleur Ouvrier de France (2000) Nicolas Salagnac.
This «ATG 2020 Imagery», printed in the Asdourian and Gustave Gernez workshops in Châtillon, will be offered to all members of the association up to date with their subscription. The monthly municipal bulletin published by Les Pavillons-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) offers in each publication a page devoted to philately, written by the Cercle philatélique et cartophile pavillonnais (Tel .: 01-48-48-37- 44). Theme treated in June: a history of medicine through a tribute to some famous caregivers stamped by France (Avicenna, Pasteur, Claude Bernard, Laënnec, etc.). In September, it was the turn of Jean Mermoz (1901-1936) who, “90 years ago, on May 12, 1930, accompanied by the navigator Jean Dabry and the radio Léopold Gimié, provided the first postal air link on the South Atlantic, after a twenty-one hour journey”.
Online stamp. The sending of the latest work by novelist, screenwriter and essayist Philippe Di Folco, The True Count of Montecristo (Editions du Trésor, 64 pages plus a map, 15 euros), was sent in an envelope franked with an illustrated online stamp « L’or de Sipan » which refers to a treasure hunt organized by the publisher.
Fans of Alexandre Dumas will savor the story full of twists and turns of this “real” count – George Graham Watson-Taylor – who lived for a few years in the 19th century on an island in the Mediterranean, whose lack of a line union in its name refers to the romantic Monte Cristo.
Post-response. Recently received in the mail some requests for funds from various charitable organizations with ready to post pre-stamped with the red “Marianne” in common use: Médecins sans frontières, Gustave-Roussy, Institut Pasteur, Secours Catholique and Fondation ARC pour la recherche sur le cancer… It is enough to be on their files fed by a few donations from time to time to feed a consequent flow…
