Carabineros detained 87 people -among them 43 couples- the dawn of this Sunday after being caught in a motel in the commune of La Florida, without having the necessary permits to be in the place.
The fact was made known after a complaint to the uniformed police, who after 02:00 hours arrived at the compound, located on Trinidad street, to verify that the place had the sanitary measures required and that attendees had the corresponding travel permit.
After a piece-by-piece review, it was found that none of the passengers had the correct permit to be in the motel, named Trinidad. Finally, 87 people were detained -one under the age of 17 among them-, 43 couples and the administrator.
“The administrator agrees to review the list of passengers and it is verified that indeed, all the passengers who were inside registered addresses in the city of Santiago. When auditing it is verified that some had temporary permits or other types of safe-conduct, but none that allow you to stay in those facilities, since none of them gave the address of the motel“detailed Major Leonardo Alache.
Due to this, it was determined that “43 adult men and 43 women, also adults, were arrested and together with them, also a young 17-year-old teenager“.
The vast majority, according to the disposition of the Public Ministry, were warned while waiting for a summons.

“Anyone can go somewhere to have fun with their partner”
After being released, one of the women involved assured that I had the necessary permission to be in the place and criticized that they kept all the people – about 100 – detained in the same place.
“I was alone with my partner (at the motel), I was not with anyone else. Here they had us with 100 people in a room“one of the detainees lamented this morning.
In her account, the person involved explained that she had paid to spend 24 hours on the premises – which according to her was a hotel and not a motel – and that entered with the corresponding permission to travel and that at the exit he would take another.
“I don’t go to motels, I go to hotels … I paid for a hotel for 24 hours, not even for a little while, because We all have needs, anyone can go somewhere to have fun with their partner, or is that also not allowed?“the woman complained.
During the pandemic, motels have had a change of direction and have also become hotels and provide these types of services -they are known as hotels for adults-, in order to be able to comply with all sanitary regulations.

There is still confusion about the permissions
In previous weeks, there were already certain controversies with audits to these precincts, so the Metropolitan Health Seremi had to confirm that they can be operational with the respective permissions.
Due to this, from the guild they still assure that this situation is seen as a void for people, since there is no permit to be during the corresponding hours inside motels and hotels.
“We are very struck by the fact that the entities in charge of hotel audits do not know what is expressed by the Seremi de Salud de la Región Metropolitana. On the other hand, for people to be able to attend our hotels they only need a general travel permit, “he said. Jocelyn Lizana, vice president of the Association of Hotels for Adults.
The representative of this union explained that the permit, to be valid, must “be valid upon entry and after that the passenger must leave with another permit“.
“These permits are for displacement, displacement is audited, there is no permit to stay in any hotel, motel, residential or hostel. There is no permit for passengers to stay in that stay, because it does not exist and the time our passengers stay is a commercial agreement between us and the passenger, “Lizana pointed out.
Quarantine Motel Operation
For its part, the Carabineros, specifically the Virtual Police Station, confirmed that these places if they can operate during quarantine time like hotels, given that -they reported- they have the same twist.
“In communes that are in quarantine, hotels and motels are authorized to operate, since both maintain the same line of business or economic activity that it is authorized by instructions for the permission to travel and therefore it is enabled in the Virtual Police Station, “said Carabineros Lieutenant Daniel Medina.
Along the same lines, the police officer pointed out that in the case of clients “they must have access to their two general travel permits which are available per person “, since a person should enter the motel” with a general travel permit and the next day leave with his other general permit. “
