After all the bad luck of the past weeks, Deceuninck-Quick Step could use a boost and the new goldcrests Joao Almeida and Andrea Bagioli seemed to take care of that.
In the final Almeida drove away from an elite group. The Portuguese, 3rd in Burgos and 7th in the Tour of the Ain, started the final climb of San Luca with a pre-gift of about 20 seconds on a package of springs.
There, teammate Bagioli acted as a watchdog for Aleksandr Vlasov’s acceleration, but the Italian was unable to follow the Russian.
Vlasov, in blood form, grabbed Almeida 500 meters from the finish by the scruff of the neck and rushed towards the victory without mercy.
The 24-year-old Vlasov is forcing his breakthrough this year with impressive results.
In the spring he already convinced with a stage victory and the 2nd place in the final standings of the Tour of Provence, after the corona break his results series is more than astonishing.
3rd in the Route d’Occitanie, 1st on the Ventoux, 4th in the Gran Piemonte, 3rd in Lombardy and now winner in the Tour of Emilie.
