The Globe was inaugurated in 1989 and in 2021 it changed its name to Avicii arena. Last year it was announced that the spherical arena in Stockholm was to be upgraded and now it is clear how.
Sportbladet writes that the arena comes from, among other things, floating “gondola lounges” to be built in a ring above the seating area. In the ring-shaped construction, there will be movable panels that make it possible to quickly transform the arena.
A movable roof must also be built, which allows the arena to be scaled down for smaller events, such as hockey matches.
In addition, the grandstand at the top under the roof will be demolished to make way for “modern lodges and event spaces”. The lower section of seating will get new seats, which are closer to the ice during hockey games.
Should be ready for the WC
The reconstruction is expected to cost SEK 700 million, according to Sportbladet.

The meeting between Djurgården and Södertälje in the Hockeyallsvenskan in December will be the last match in the arena in its current design. Then the renovation begins. The plan is for the 2025 Ice Hockey World Cup to be held in the newly renovated arena.
Djurgården and AIK play hockey matches in Avicii Arena and neighboring arena Hovet. In 2025 or 2026, the latter will be demolished and then the teams will move into the Globe
Avicii Arena was until this year the world’s largest spherical building. In September, The Sphere was inaugurated in Las Vegas, which puts the Globe down to second place.
