The summer transfer window is over and any fears of it being a quiet market disappeared from the water.
Clubs in the Premier League did their best to strengthen their squads for the 2021/22 campaign.

Some have spent money on real freedom, while others have been a bit more pragmatic, countering their spending by offloading players for substantial sums to fund their sprees in a more sustainable way.
So which Premier League clubs had the best and worst net spending this summer?
talkSPORT has ranked the top 20 clubs according to who has the highest net spend, according to the football transfer website, Transfermarkt.co.uk.
20. Chelsea – Profit of £ 37.12 million

Chelsea shell out £ 97.5 million to bring Lukaku back and scored in his debut against Arsenal
It’s remarkable considering how much money was spent on Romelu Lukaku, but Chelsea made a huge profit this summer.
His expense was greatly offset by the sales of Tammy Abraham, Kurt Zouma, David Zappacosta, Fikayo Tomori, Victor Moses, and Olivier Giroud.
Even the sales of its youth players generated £ 35 million.
19. Aston Villa – Profit of £ 19.26 million

Great things are expected for Buendia’s new signing at Villa after he starred in Norwich last season in the Championship.
Dean Smith’s team have made some big signings like Ashley Young, Danny Ings, Emi Buendia and Leon Bailey that have cost them a significant amount.
Yet when you sell players, including Jack Grealish’s £ 100 million move to Manchester City, it’s easy to see why the club’s net spending is so low.
Hiring some quality players and then making such a healthy profit should be highly commended.
18. Southampton – Profit of £ 17.45 million

Former Newcastle academy ace Adam Armstrong starred in the championship with Blackburn last season.
Southampton have been busy this summer after adding Adam Armstrong, Romain Perraud, Lyanco and Valentino Livramento to the club, however this has been offset by their expenses.
Angus Gunn, Mario Lemina, Yannik Vestergaard and of course Danny Ings have all left the club, which has ensured that the club has made a good profit on the transfer market.
17. Everton – Profit of £ 5.2 million

Gray joined the Toffees for £ 1.5 million from Bayer Leverkusen and scored his first goal for the club against Leeds.
Everton have earned more than they have spent this summer, but only narrowly.
The cut-price deals for Demerai Gray, Andros Townsend, Asmir Begovic and Andy Lonergan have meant spending has been kept to a minimum.
They then got a high loan rate for Moise Kean’s transfer to Juventus.
16. Brighton – Profit of £ 4.95 million

While Graham Potter’s team has moved to sign Enock Mwepu and Kjell Scherpen, the club is very green thanks to the sale of Ben White to Arsenal.
Making money in the transfer market is all very well, but only if the team can progress with their performances on the field.
15. Lobos – Profit of 4.68 million
The wolves did smart business this summer
The wolves had a quiet transfer window in terms of large money movements, but they did do some smart business.
Rafa Mir and Rio Patricio left for £ 25 million with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Jose Sa and Yerson Mosquera entering.

The newly promoted team has taken a cautious approach to life in the transfer market this summer.
Imran Louza, Emmanuel Dennis and Moussa Sissoko have cost money, but the likes of Ashley Fletcher, Josh King and Danny Rose came for nothing.
Will Hughes, Craig Dawson and Ben Wilmot were sold, which means the Hornets’ payout this summer has been limited.
13. Liverpool – net expenditure of £ 6.8 million

Jurgen Klopp’s team spent a lot on Ibrahima Konate, but this summer has been quiet by modern standards.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Taiwo Awoniyi are all gone, which has meant it’s been a crafty summer for the title contenders.
12. Burnley – £ 20.34 million net expense

Burnley’s boss really lifted spirits with his press conferences during the gloom of a global pandemic.
The signings of Maxwel Cornet and Nathan Collins cost a substantial amount as Sean Dyche looks to the future with their signings.
However, they got some of those funds back when they sold Ben Gibson to Norwich City.
11. Norwich City – £ 24.98 million net expense

Daniel Farke’s team has been very busy since their promotion to the Premier League and has brought a host of new faces to Carrow Road.
While these deals have cost a substantial amount, they recovered a large fee for Emi Buendia after selling her old talisman to Aston Villa.
10. Newcastle United – £ 26.46 million net expense

St James’ Park is a volatile place to be right now with fans disgruntled by the lack of investment in the playing team and the poor leadership of the team.
Joe Willock’s expensive move from Arsenal is the only money that changed hands.
9. Tottenham Hotspur – Net spending £ 30.78 million

Harry Kane was the talk of the summer and retaining him was a massive hit.
Emerson Royal, Bryan Gil and Pape Sarr have joined the club for significant fees, but the departures of Juan Foyth, Toby Alderweireld, Joe Hart and Moussa Sissoko have ensured that their net spending is fairly low.
8. Brentford – £ 34.38 million net expense

Brentford, directed by Thomas Frank, does things differently and won’t care what other people think.
They say you need to invest if you want to have any chance of surviving the post-promo downturn and Brentford has taken that advice on board.
Kristoffer Ajer, Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa have been the club’s starters.
7. Leicester City – £ 49.14 million net expense

Brendan Rodgers’ team has genuine hopes of a top-four spot in the Premier League and has looked to upgrade their ranks this summer.
Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Jannik Vestergaard cost seven-figure sums.
6. Leeds United – £ 54.7 million net spend

Marcelo Bielsa finally got his man on the deadline when Dan James arrived from Manchester United.
Junior Firpo, Jack Harrison and Kristoffer Klaesson have also joined.
5. West Ham United – £ 64 million net spend
Hammers boss Moyes swooped in to sign Zouma from Chelsea
West Ham United hadn’t spent much until the last few days, when they signed Kurt Zouma from Chelsea and Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.
The Hammers have also paid loan fees for Alex Kral and Alphonse Areola.
4. Crystal Palace – £ 66.09 million net expense

Patrick Vieira always wanted to make an impact after taking over Selhurst Park and he certainly has.
Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen, Odsonne Edouard, Michael Olise y Will Hughes se han unido al club.
3. Manchester City – £ 73.83 million net expense

A £ 100 million deal to sign Jack Grealish would always mean Manchester City had one of the highest net expenses in the Premier League.
However, with Angelino, Jack Harrison and Lukas Nmecha advancing for a substantial fee, it meant the club was able to offset a certain amount of that expense.
2. Manchester United – £ 99.81 million net expense

Manchester United are great again this summer.
The deals to sign Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane have been hugely expensive deals, while Cristiano Ronaldo also returned for around £ 20 million.
Dan James’ departure secured some cash inflow, but fans hope his spending could bring them closer to the Premier League title.
1. Arsenal – £ 121.23 million net expenditure

Arsenal’s £ 50m signing Ben White was unavailable for his match against Chelsea or Man City.
Arsenal will have a lot more to answer for if they don’t have a successful season after securing the highest net spending in the league this summer.
Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Aaron Ramsdale, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Albert Sambi Lakonga and Nuno Tavares cost the club an enormous amount of money.
