Brazilian police reported on Monday that they detained a passenger who was trying to board at Lisbon International Airport in Guarulhos, in the state of São Paulo, with eight compressed bricks of cocaine.
The woman, not identified by the authorities, is Brazilian and was arrested on Saturday after her luggage was inspected with the aid of the X-ray machine.
Police officers identified suspicious organic material in the passenger bag, which was located at the departure gate and detained after experts identified the compacted substance, in the form of eight bricks, as cocaine.
Two Brazilians who were returning to the country of Europe, with synthetic drugs in their suitcases, were also detained over the weekend.
One of the arrested women landed on a flight from Frankfurt, Germany, with 10 kilos of methamphetamine, while another woman from Paris, France, was seized more than 17 kilos of the same drug.
All detainees will be sent to prisons in the state of São Paulo, where they will be available to the courts.
In a brief assessment of operations at Guarulhos airport, the busiest in Brazil, the authorities reported that in January alone the volume of drugs seized totaled more than 280 kilograms, exceeding by more than 480% the total learned in the same period of 2019, resulting in in the prison of 29 people.
