Argyll, a new publishing house launches in Rennes – Rennes

Telling the story of the company through the book. Since March 18, a new publishing house has appeared in bookstores. Argyll, it is the story of four Rennais. Xavier Dollo and Simon Pinel, editors for ten years, wanted “to explore new avenues, to be as close as possible to the field and to work in conjunction with [leurs] convictions ”. By the time, the cartoon illustrator, Xavier Collette, and Frédéric Hugot, a specialist in digital culture responsible for working on the production of books in audio format for dyslexics and visually impaired people.

Focusing on both reissue and unpublished stories, Argyll published as his first book “The Twilight of Briareus”, an English story from 1974 which is part of the tradition of social novels and seems extremely topical. The second novel currently being edited is a thriller. “Tracké”, by Christophe Nicolas, deals with police violence and GAFAM. “This entertainment novel is also intended as an alert on certain abuses” specifies Xavier Dollo.

A bookstore project in the pipeline

Incubated by Tag 35, a propellant in the social and solidarity economy, the small business already has many desires to support its primary activity. “Our project is to create a collaborative and participatory bookstore – we are currently looking for premises – but also to go to schools, colleges and high schools to talk about reading and make it easier to access” continues Xavier Dollo .

Despite the health crisis and the new containment measures, the start-up of the publishing house is ongoing. “Of course, the sanitary conditions are like a sword of Damocles over our heads, because we do not know if we will be able to distribute our books in good conditions. But the first returns are encouraging. The book is a safe haven: it is doing quite well. It is also a way of thinking other than with a screen. And then for us, now is the time or never, because we want to question what is happening in our society ”. In May, the publishing house publishes the Rennes-born Lionel Davoust, which offers an essay to learn to write fiction.
