Apple to Shift Focus to Wearable in 2024, Launching Vision Pro VR Headset

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – In 2024, Apple will shift its focus to wearablemoving away from its traditional focus on iPhone. This was reported by Mark Gurman in the Power On Bloomberg bulletin, as quoted by Gizmochina, December 18 2023.

“The iPhone will lag behind Apple’s wearable business in 2024, with the Vision Pro, watches, and AirPods getting more attention,” Gurman wrote.

While the iPhone will continue to receive upgrades, there won’t be any significant design changes. The design of the iPhone 15 will be maintained, with the Pro models getting a larger screen and the regular models inheriting the Action button.

The spotlight will be on the Apple Watch, which is expected to receive a significant redesign, marking a departure from the consistent design language since its initial launch.

Additionally, Apple plans to introduce important health features, such as blood pressure and sleep apnea monitoring, thereby enhancing the smartwatch’s health tracking capabilities.

Apple is also reportedly planning to upgrade the Apple Watch Ultra’s screen to a thinner, more power-efficient MicroLED panel, increasing the screen size to 2.12 inches, but this is expected to arrive in 2026 due to production challenges.

AirPods 4 are also on the way, featuring a fresher design, a USB-C port, and active noise cancellation. Apple will cater to a wider audience by offering both budget-friendly and premium versions. However, some features such as noise cancellation may be exclusive to higher-end models. AirPods Max could also see updates like USB-C charging and new color options.

However, the standout product in Apple’s lineup for 2024 is the Vision Pro. Despite being a first-generation product, the Vision Pro has demonstrated a great way to interact with the world through a virtual headset.

While VR headsets have been around for a few years, with companies like Meta leading the way, the Vision Pro really shows the potential that VR headsets lack.

The device is poised to become a top choice for professional use, marking a significant innovation for Apple. While it may take some time to fully develop, the device is expected to generate huge profits for Apple, similar to the success of AirPods and the Apple Watch.

The Vision Pro, priced at US$3,499, offers a micro-OLED display with resolution exceeding 4K for each eye. Equipped with a comfortable, fabric-covered headset and strap with a modular design to accommodate various face and head shapes. Additionally, it comes with an external battery that provides an additional two hours of battery life. Powered by the M2 chip and the new R1 processor, Vision Pro runs on visionOS.

Meanwhile, there are also rumors that Apple is developing a more budget-friendly alternative to the Vision Pro headset.
