Talks between Apple and the Hyundai / Kia group for the possible construction of a car are progressing well, according to information conveyed by CNBC. In fact, the two companies are said to be on the cusp of a deal that would allow Kia to build an Apple autonomous electric vehicle at its assembly plant in West Point, Georgia.

According to CNBC sources, the eventual deal depends on one important detail, namely that Apple controls both the vehicle’s technology, but also its physical aspect. In other words, we would not be entitled to a Kia or Hyundai model equipped with technology signed by Apple, but an Apple vehicle built by the Korean manufacturer in the United States, and this, under the direction from Apple.
The nuance is important.
If Apple joins forces with Kia, it could use the E-GMP platform that Hyundai recently introduced as a basis for the future electric vehicles it will build. If this is the case, Apple wouldn’t have to develop its own electrical architecture. Hyundai and Kia will introduce 23 electric vehicles around the world by 2025.
